ServiceStamp's $14.99 service-history check covers Jeep and Kia, but not the five biggest used makes
US used market, week of Oct 19, 2026

ServiceStamp has launched a US VIN check that shows buyers official manufacturer dealer service records for nine brands, priced at $14.99 per check, according to a report published by middlesboronews.com on Oct 11, 2026. We read the US used market in MarketCheck data to see how much of it the launch list actually touches. Coverage spans BMW, MINI, Porsche, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Kia, Polestar and Volvo, model year 2012 onward, which reaches two high-volume used makes and several smaller ones, but none of the five largest used makes on US dealer websites. Jeep was the sixth-largest used make by dealer sales in Sep 2026 at 92,643 units of model year 2012 or newer, and Kia was eighth at 65,101. Ford (178,776 units), Chevrolet (169,309) and Toyota (142,539) led the month, and none of them, nor Nissan or Honda, is on the launch list.
What the data shows
| Metric, US used dealer sales | Sep 2025 | Sep 2026 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vehicles sold (units) | 1,557,527 | 1,588,723 | +31,196 (+2.0%) |
| Median asking price ($) | 22,992 | 23,998 | +1,006 (+4.4%) |
| Median miles | 62,294 | 59,181 | -3,113 (-5.0%) |
| Median days on market | 24 | 26 | +2 days |
| Mean price vs MSRP (%, mean-based) | -39.13% | -38.46% | +0.67 points |
Used dealer sales and the median asking price rose year on year, and cars took two more days to sell. These are MarketCheck sold-vehicle data from all US franchise and independent dealer websites, used vehicles of all model years, for Sep 2025 and Sep 2026. Sales are listings that left dealer websites, prices are advertised asking prices rather than transaction prices, and the last row is a mean while the others are medians.
Across the nine covered brands, the shape of the coverage is uneven. Jeep (92,643 units, median asking price $23,295, median 59,959 miles) and Kia (65,101 units, $21,980, 44,505 miles) carry the volume. BMW ranked 12th with 44,185 units at a median asking price of $35,214. Dodge ranked 16th with 27,517 units and the highest median mileage on the list at 78,212, followed by Chrysler at 22nd with 17,201 units and 70,909 median miles. Volvo (11,299 units), Porsche (9,393 units at a median asking price of $65,603) and MINI (3,976 units) sit further down the ranking, and Polestar, the ninth covered brand, sold 541 used units in Sep 2026.
Why it matters
Dealers of covered brands face better-informed buyers. Jeep sold 92,643 used units and Kia 65,101 on US dealer websites in Sep 2026. A shopper on either brand can now look up whether the car was serviced at a franchised dealer before calling the store.
The coverage gap is where the volume is. The three largest used makes in Sep 2026 were Ford, Chevrolet and Toyota, at 178,776, 169,309 and 142,539 units. With those makes outside the launch list, a clean OEM service file is not yet a market-wide expectation on the typical used car.
The price sits between budget and premium reports. ServiceStamp charges $14.99. VinAudit's own comparison page lists VinAudit at $9.99 per report and CARFAX at $44.99 per report. Service records are a different product from title and accident history, so for most buyers this adds to their checks rather than replacing them.
High-mileage inventory is where service history says most. Used Dodge models sold in Sep 2026 had a median of 78,212 miles and Chrysler 70,909. At those mileages, maintenance history explains more about condition than a title check does.
Slower retail gives shoppers more time to check. The median used vehicle took 26 days to sell in Sep 2026, up from 24 days in Sep 2025, while the median asking price rose to $23,998. Longer shopping windows and higher asking prices give buyers both time and reason to verify a car.
What to watch
- Whether Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda or Nissan join the list. Any one of them would bring the check to the makes that lead used sales, and dealers would then need complete service files on most of their trade-ins.
- How covered brands are appraised. Dealers taking in Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler units near 70,000 miles or more can pull the service record before the buyer does.
- Whether marketplaces display service history beside the title report. If they do, it becomes a standard part of a used-car deal rather than an add-on.
- Days on market. The median rose from 24 to 26 days between Sep 2025 and Sep 2026, and longer shopping windows make it more likely buyers pay for extra checks.
How this was measured
Monthly sold-vehicle statistics from 182 million dealer-website sales since 2021. Sales are listings that left franchise and independent dealer websites, and prices are advertised asking prices. Auctions and private sales are excluded. Sep 2026 is the latest complete month, and the data lags about two months. The brand table covers used vehicles of model year 2012 to 2027 for Sep 2026, ranked by units sold among all makes.

The story we checked
"ServiceStamp Launches VIN Check Service for Manufacturer Dealer Records in the U.S.", middlesboronews.com, Oct 11, 2026. Fact-check tally: 4 verified, 1 unverifiable. Verified: the US launch in Oct 2026 at $14.99; the nine-brand coverage list from model year 2012 onward; the UK launch in Jan 2026 ahead of the US; and the $14.99 price sitting between VinAudit's $9.99 and CARFAX's $44.99 single reports. Unverifiable: that records are pulled directly from the manufacturer systems franchised dealers use, which only the company's own release states.
