Ask for stats and you get the price, mileage or days-on-site distribution of the whole match (median, quartiles, the 95th percentile); ask for facets and you get the counts behind any field, which is also how you learn the exact strings the filters expect.

What to do with it: Five like-for-like Sports sit between $22,354 and $26,998, so $24,998 is mid-pack; the Kunes car at $22,354 with 43,182 miles is the anchor to negotiate from.

Limits and traps

Read before you lean on a number.

  • Field values are not plain English. "Hybrid" matches nothing; the data says HEV or PHEV. Call the tool with only facets set (facets=powertrain_type, rows=1) to learn the exact strings, then filter with them. Make, model, trim, body type, drivetrain, transmission and colours all work this way.
  • Days on site is shelf time, not sell speed. A car showing 1 day on site was listed yesterday and has sold nothing yet. Fast movers come from the recently sold tool; high days on site on a live listing is the honest slow-mover signal.
  • dos_active counts days at the current dealer; dom_active counts days across every dealer the car has passed through. Ask for dos_active when the question is about this seller, dom_active when it is about the car.
  • Up to 50 rows a call on a normal search, 5 by default, paged with start. A dealer-scoped search (source or dealer id) returns the whole inventory, up to 1,500.
  • Radius is in miles around a ZIP. Nationwide and state searches need no radius at all.
  • US and Canadian dealer listings. A UK account searches UK dealer listings instead, located by postcode and priced in pounds.
  • Ignore any carfax field in the result: that feed is incomplete and the tool says so itself.
  • Every price is the advertised asking price on the dealer page, never a transaction price.
