Price prediction with comparables

The MarketCheck Price for a VIN with the comparable listings behind it.

$0.18 per call

What it returns

Raw data for your assistant to read.

The MarketCheck Price for a VIN at a given mileage, ZIP and dealer channel: the predicted off-market exit price, which is the last advertised asking price comparable cars carried before they left the market. With it, the sticker, the active comparable listings (same year, make, model and trim, with price, miles, days on site, seller and distance) and the recently off-market comparables, each set with its count. The model is trained on listings that actually cleared, so it excludes the inflated asking prices of cars still sitting.

Use it when

  • You want one defensible number for a unit and the comps that produced it, without a hosted report.
  • You are pricing a trade or a purchase and want the exit price for your channel: franchise or independent, certified or not.
  • You want the CPO premium on a specific unit: run it certified and not, and take the difference.
  • A report named a value and you want to see the comparable rows behind it in the same conversation.

Not when a report already answers it

  • You want a valuation a customer can read, with dual-channel pricing and a range: the Vehicle Valuation Report.
  • You want a trade-in versus private versus retail read: the Trade-In Valuation Report.
  • You want the script for a negotiation, not just the number: the Negotiation Brief.
  • You want every unit on a lot priced against the market at once: the Lot Pricing Scan.

  }
}

What to do with it: A predicted exit price of $26,311 against a $26,841 median across 109 live comps and a $25,559 median across 13 that recently cleared: list at $26,900 and expect the last asking before it leaves to sit near $26,300.

Not certified, same inputs: "marketcheck_price": 26311

What to do with it: Certification is worth $709 on this unit, about 2.7 percent: certify it if the CPO cost lands under that.

    ]
  }
}

What to do with it: The flat comp median ($22,150) describes 70,000-mile cars; the mileage-aware prediction ($18,414) is the number to defend for a 140,000-mile unit, and the $18,176 asking sits right on it.

    ]
  }
}

What to do with it: Ten comps for a rare trim, eight of them more than 300 miles away, and the prediction still lands at $52,236 against a $49,629 asking: the $2,600 gap is the room a wholesale bid has.

    ]
  }
}

What to do with it: The predicted exit price for a 41,000-mile Sport in the independent channel is $22,082, so $24,998 is about $2,900 over it; the 49,521-mile car that recently cleared at $21,990 two miles away is the comp to bring.

With miles 59,192 and ZIP 60053: "marketcheck_price": 26311

What to do with it: The defaults are 50,000 miles and ZIP 50501, so the nearest comp was 175 miles from Des Moines and the prediction came in $1,633 high; always pass the miles and the ZIP.

Limits and traps

Read before you lean on a number.

  • Always pass miles and a ZIP. The defaults are 50,000 miles and ZIP 50501 (Des Moines), and the comparables then come from Iowa: on one RAV4 the prediction moved $1,600 between the defaults and the right inputs.
  • Pass dealer_type. The prediction is channel-aware (franchise or independent, franchise when left out) and the two channels price the same car differently; certified is a separate flag.
  • The MarketCheck Price is a predicted listing price at exit, the last asking price before a car leaves the market. It is not a transaction price and never what a car sold for.
  • A rare trim returns few comparables and reaches far for them; read the distance on each comp before leaning on the median.
  • The comparable sets can run to a few hundred rows. Ask the assistant for the count, the median and the nearest ten rather than the whole list.
  • A UK account gets the base MarketCheck Price for a registration, in pounds, without comparables; pull UK comparables with the active listings search.
