VIN listing history

Every listing of a VIN over the years: prices, dealer hops, days on market.

$0.02 per call

What it returns

Raw data for your assistant to read.

Every online listing record for a VIN, newest first: the advertised asking price and the miles at that point, the seller website and name, the city and state, whether it was listed as new or used, and the dates the record was first and last seen. A price or mileage change opens a new record, so a car that was re-priced seven times shows seven rows at the same dealer. Fifty records a page; a long fleet history runs to a second page.

Use it when

  • You are vetting a car: how many times has it been re-priced, how many dealers has it been through, was it a rental.
  • You need the lowest advertised price of record for a VIN and where it was listed, for a claim or an appraisal file.
  • You want the sticker it sold new at, from the original dealer listing, next to what it is asking now.
  • You suspect wholesale churn: the same VIN listed in three states in three years.

Not when a report already answers it

  • You want the lowest price of record as a document with a timeline, for one VIN or a batch: the VIN Price Check.
  • You want the history read for red flags alongside the spec and the price: the Used Car Health Check.
  • You want a value, not a history: the Vehicle Valuation Report.

Mar 29 to Apr 1, 2025 $61,894 0 mi new Right Toyota, Scottsdale AZ

What to do with it: Listed new at $61,894 to $65,514 through spring 2025 and back on the same lot 17 months and 26,844 miles later at $49,629: the trade appraisal cites the new-car sticker the dealer itself advertised.

What to do with it: Sold new in Tennessee in 2022, listed in Greenville a year ago at $26,991 and now in Chicago at $26,104 with 8,165 more miles: the current asking is the second retail attempt, and the Napleton walk-down from $28,394 says the first weeks did not take.

Jun 14, 2023 $25,900 47,470 mi Seattle WA

What to do with it: The first page stops at 50 records; the second one shows the car entering the retail market as a 47,000-mile rental in June 2023, which is the ownership fact an appraisal file should carry.

Jun 5 to Jul 1, 2020 $27,785 1 mi new Honda of Valley Stream, Valley Stream NY

What to do with it: The lowest advertised price of record is $24,848 (Sep 2023, at 23,144 miles); today's $24,998 at 41,270 miles sits above that floor and both belong in the file.

Jan 4 to Apr 30, 2025 $18,900 to $17,900 124,000 mi Jackson Auto Co, Jackson MI (3 records)
Jun 14 to Oct 11, 2023 $25,900 to $24,000 47,470 to 62,022 mi Hertz Car Sales, listed from St. Louis, Seattle, Des Plaines and Smithtown (29 records, page 2 holds the oldest)

What to do with it: Ex-rental, three dealers of record and five cuts in four months: the seller has been chasing the market down from $18,999 to $17,599, so the next cut is the number to offer.

Limits and traps

Read before you lean on a number.

  • Records, not owners. A rental fleet re-lists a car every few days across cities; six seller names can be one group's sister websites. Count the distinct sellers, not the rows.
  • Fifty records a page. A VIN with 62 records needs page=2 to reach its first listing, and the oldest rows are the ones that carry the original sticker.
  • A missing price means the dealer page showed none when the record was taken, not a free car; a missing mileage is the same.
  • Every price is what the dealer advertised at the time, never what the car sold for.
  • US and Canadian dealer listings only; private-party listings are not in the history. A UK account looks a vehicle up by its registration in UK listings.
