Canada wholesale fell 0.40% but the median used asking price sits flat near C$29,937, with 60.4% of listings cut
Canada used market, week of Nov 2, 2026

Canadian Black Book reported that the Canadian used wholesale market declined 0.40% in the week ending Oct 24, 2026, with car segments down 0.50% and truck/SUV segments down 0.33%. Retail in Canada has not followed at the same pace: MarketCheck data puts the median used asking price on Canadian dealer websites at C$29,937 on Nov 2, 2026, against C$29,982 on Oct 19, 2026 in earlier MarketCheck research, which is flat. At the same time, 162,880 of 269,720 active used listings, or 60.4%, already carry at least one price reduction. These are asking prices on live listings, not auction values, and the two series measure different things.
The weekly wholesale slide also picked up pace. The 0.40% drop follows 0.27% in the week ending Oct 17, 2026 and 0.35% in the week ending Oct 10, 2026, according to Canadian Black Book figures cited in MarketCheck research.
What the data shows
| Measure, Canada used, Nov 02, 2026 | All used listings | Listings with a price reduction |
|---|---|---|
| Active listings (count) | 269,720 | 162,880 |
| Share of active used listings (%) | 100 | 60.4 |
| Median asking price (CAD) | 29,937 | 31,658 |
| Mean asking price (CAD) | 35,946 | 37,301 |
| Median days on market (days) | 106 | 130 |
| 90th percentile days on market (days) | 395 | 434 |
Reduced listings sit 24 days longer at the median and ask C$1,721 more, so cuts concentrate on pricier, slower stock rather than across the lot. Prices here are medians and means as labelled, from active used listings on Canadian dealer websites on Nov 2, 2026.
By body type on the same day, SUVs account for 148,845 listings, or 55.2% of the Canadian used lot, at a median asking price of C$30,270 and a median 101 days on market. Pickups account for 42,406 listings (15.7%), sedans 38,712 (14.4%) at a median asking price of C$21,161 and 98 days on market, and hatchbacks 14,851 (5.5%). Median asking price and days on market were not pulled for pickups or hatchbacks.
Why it matters
Replacement costs are moving faster than shelf prices. Wholesale fell 0.40% in a week while the retail median sat flat near C$29,937. Units bought at auction in Sep 2026 lose value against their cost every week they sit, and the gap between a falling auction line and a flat retail median widens on paper for newly bought stock.
Discounting is already the norm, not the exception. With 60.4% of active used listings carrying a reduction, shoppers in Canada have room to negotiate, and a dealer who has not cut is pricing against a market that has.
The cut listings are the aged ones. Reduced listings run a median 130 days on market against 106 days for all used listings, and 434 days at the 90th percentile against 395 days. That is the stock most exposed if wholesale keeps sliding.
Car weakness has not reached car retail yet. Wholesale car segments fell 0.50%, more steeply than truck/SUV at 0.33%, yet used sedans turn at a median 98 days, slightly faster than SUVs at 101 days, at a median asking price of C$21,161. Cheaper cars are still clearing.
Levels, not a trend line. A MarketCheck snapshot published Oct 26, 2026 put the median asking price at C$30,179. Against that level, Nov 2, 2026 is C$242 (0.8%) lower, a slip within what this read calls flat. These are single-day snapshots, not a continuous series.
What to watch
- The next weekly wholesale reading. A second straight decline of 0.40% or more would confirm an accelerating autumn slide, and auction bids can be set against it.
- The share of listings carrying a price reduction. A move well above 60.4% would signal dealers clearing aged stock, which pulls the retail median toward wholesale.
- Sedan against SUV days on market. If sedans fall behind SUVs, the 0.50% car wholesale weakness has reached retail and shoppers gain leverage on cars.
- The spread between all used listings at 106 median days and reduced listings at 130 median days. A widening gap points to a lot that is aging unevenly.
How this was measured
Wholesale figures are Canadian Black Book's auction data, the story's. MarketCheck figures are retail asking prices on Canadian dealer websites (CAD, km), single-day snapshots, not a time series. Listing counts are not unit counts because one car can appear on several sites; shares are computed from the reported counts.
The MarketCheck read used the Inventory Search API, GET /v2/search/car/active (Inventory Search API docs), for Canada used listings on Nov 2, 2026: an all-used query with price, mileage and days-on-market stats; the same query filtered to listings with a negative price change; a body type facet; and separate sedan and SUV queries with price and days-on-market stats. Data label: MarketCheck data. API keys: MarketCheck developer portal.
