Amazon Autos' 1,000 dealers are 1.2% of US dealers as it pushes into CPO, where prices outpaced used and new
US used and certified pre-owned data, Sep 2025 vs Sep 2026

Amazon Autos lists new, used and certified pre-owned vehicles from more than 1,000 dealers in over 130 US cities, according to a SAKAEM Logistics report on Oct 30, 2026 that frames the move as Amazon widening its marketplace model beyond its new-car launch. Measured against the US market, those 1,000-plus participating dealers are about 1.2% of the 81,291 US dealers in MarketCheck's dealer directory as of Nov 2, 2026. MarketCheck sold-vehicle data for US dealer websites shows the expansion lands in the parts of the market where asking prices rose fastest over the past year: used median asking prices were up 4.4% year on year, and certified pre-owned medians were up 4.7%, against 1.9% for new. For dealers, that reads as a contest for reach rather than a price war.
What the data shows
| Metric, US dealer websites | Sep 2025 | Sep 2026 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Used sales (units) | 1,557,527 | 1,588,723 | +2.0% |
| Used median asking price ($) | $22,992 | $23,998 | +4.4% |
| Used median days on market (days) | 24 | 26 | +2 days |
| New sales (units) | 1,195,217 | 1,202,756 | +0.6% |
| New median asking price ($) | $44,236 | $45,059 | +1.9% |
| New median days on market (days) | 43 | 43 | flat |
| New mean asking price vs MSRP (%) | -3.55% | -3.23% | narrowed 0.32 pts |
Used volume and prices climbed year on year, while new volume and new-car days on market held flat and the mean discount to MSRP narrowed. Prices here are advertised asking prices from US franchise and independent dealer websites, not transaction prices, and the MSRP row compares the mean asking price with MarketCheck MSRP.
Why it matters
Reach is still narrow. The 1,000-plus participating dealers reported by Amazon on Aug 25, 2026 are roughly 1.2% of the 81,291 US dealers in MarketCheck's dealer directory. For dealers outside the program, Amazon Autos is a channel to evaluate rather than a force that currently sets local asking prices.
Used is where the volume sits. MarketCheck data shows 1,588,723 used sales on US dealer websites in Sep 2026 against 1,202,756 new. Used volume rose 2.0% from Sep 2025 while new rose 0.6%. On those numbers, adding used and certified inventory reaches far more of the market than the original new-car listing effort.
Certified pre-owned is a small, expensive slice. Certified sales were 157,539 units in Sep 2026, about 9.9% of all used sales, down from 10.3% a year earlier. The median certified asking price was $32,429, up 4.7% from $30,976, while certified volume fell 1.8%. Median certified mileage was 25,416 miles, down 0.5%, and median days on market moved from 30 to 31. The mean certified asking price sat 25.28% below MSRP, a gap that widened 0.85 points from 24.43%.
New-car asking prices leave little room. The mean new-car asking price was 3.23% below MSRP in Sep 2026, narrower than 3.55% a year earlier. Earlier MarketCheck research sized Amazon's $1,500 gift card as a 3.3% new-car sweetener, which registers for a shopper comparing listings but does not move the pricing picture on dealer websites.
Used stock is turning more slowly. The median days on market for used sales rose from 24 days in Sep 2025 to 26 in Sep 2026. Dealers carrying slower used turns are the ones with the most to gain from an additional national audience, which is the practical argument for joining a marketplace of this kind.
What to watch
- The dealer count. A climb from 1,000 toward several thousand of the 81,291 US dealers would move Amazon Autos from a limited program to a channel that dealers and other marketplaces have to price against.
- Certified volume against certified price. Certified sales at 157,539 units in Sep 2026 were down 1.8% year on year while the median asking price rose to $32,429. Whether volume recovers without the median easing is the clearest test of how much certified distribution the platform adds.
- Used days on market. If the median moves back below 26 days for dealers listing on the platform, expect more dealers to sign up and rival marketplaces to respond on used-car lead pricing.
- Sales, not listing counts. Earlier MarketCheck research found Hyundai sales fell from 85,292 in Jul 2025 to 67,685 in Jul 2026 alongside its Amazon tie-up, a reminder that listing presence and sold volume move separately.
How this was measured
Sales are listings that left US franchise and independent dealer websites; prices are advertised asking prices, not transactions; auctions and private sales are excluded; year on year compares Sep 2026 with Sep 2025; percentage changes and shares are simple ratios of the reported figures. The national and certified pre-owned figures come from the MarketCheck Sold Summary API (the get_sold_summary tool in the MarketCheck MCP; docs Sold Summary tool), run for Sep 1 to Sep 30 in both 2025 and 2026. The 81,291 US dealer count comes from the MarketCheck dealer directory, read with the Inventory Search API, GET /v2/search/car/active (Inventory Search API docs), as of Nov 2, 2026.
