# Diminished Value Worksheet

> Post-repair loss in value, argued from comparables the appraiser picks, by 17c or by percentage.

**Price:** $5.99 per report. Runs inside Claude or ChatGPT (MCP), or as a shareable hosted web report. Pay per report, no subscription.

The appraiser's diminished value worksheet. Pre-loss value is built from ~3 like-for-like ACTIVE comparables (configuration-matched via the VIN pattern, mileage-banded to the subject odometer, each with a match % and an installed-options similarity %, every price read off the dealer's own page with a timestamped evidence snapshot), mileage-adjusted to the subject. The loss in value is then taken off that comp-derived figure. Ships a branded, shareable Excel and a hosted page the preparer drives. TWO METHODS, switchable on the page: "17c" applies the formula carriers and several state courts expect (a 10% cap on pre-loss value, scaled by a damage multiplier and a mileage multiplier, all three editable). "percent" takes a straight percentage of the comp-derived pre-loss value, for appraisers who consider 17c an undervaluation and would rather argue the loss from the comparables. Note that 17c yields ZERO above 100,000 miles by construction; the worksheet says so plainly and the preparer can override the multiplier or switch methods. Use when a repaired vehicle has lost resale value and the preparer is building the file. This supersedes the Diminished Value Report for appraisers: the report anchors pre-loss value on a model prediction the preparer cannot move, whereas this worksheet derives it from comparables they select.

## Inputs

### Required
- **vin** (e.g. `3GNAXUEG2RS216393`): 17-character vehicle identification number.

### Recommended
- **miles** (e.g. `41058`): Current odometer. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED: it drives the comparable mileage band AND the 17c mileage multiplier, which falls to zero above 100,000 miles.
- **zip** (e.g. `48120`): ZIP code of the subject market. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED, defaults to 90210 if missing.
- **dv_severity** (e.g. `moderate`): Damage severity, which sets the 17c damage multiplier: "none" (0.00), "minor" (0.25), "moderate" (0.50, default), "major" (0.75), "severe" (1.00).

### Optional
- **dv_method** (e.g. `17c`): Basis for the loss: "17c" (default) applies the capped formula with damage and mileage multipliers; "percent" takes a straight percentage of the comp-derived pre-loss value. Switchable on the hosted worksheet after the run.
- **dv_pct** (e.g. `12`): Percentage of pre-loss value taken as diminished value under the "percent" method. Defaults to 12. Editable on the hosted worksheet.
- **dv_base_cap_pct** (e.g. `10`): The 17c cap on pre-loss value before the multipliers. Defaults to 10. Editable on the hosted worksheet.
- **dv_severity_multiplier** (e.g. `0.75`): Override the 17c damage multiplier directly (0 to 1) instead of deriving it from dv_severity.
- **dv_mileage_multiplier** (e.g. `0.4`): Override the 17c mileage multiplier (0 to 1). Use this when the standard ladder zeroes a file you can support from the market, and say so in the certification.
- **accident_date** (e.g. `2026-03-14`): Date of the loss, for the file header.
- **repair_cost_usd** (e.g. `6400`): Documented repair cost, shown alongside the loss in value for context.
- **comp_strategy** (e.g. `defensible`): How the comparables are picked from the verified pool: "defensible" (default) takes the closest configuration and mileage matches; "maximum" takes the highest mileage-adjusted comparables. Both draw from the same verified pool.
- **mileage_cost_per_mile** (e.g. `0.12`): Per-mile rate for the mileage adjustment between the selected comps' average odometer and the subject's. Defaults to 0.06. Editable on the hosted worksheet.
- **select_comps** (e.g. ``): Pin exactly which comparables the worksheet averages (comma or newline separated VINs, typically 3). Default: the top 3 by match score.
- **exclude_vins** (e.g. ``): Comparables to EXCLUDE (comma or newline separated VINs). They are dropped from every pool and listed as considered and rejected.
- **adjustments** (e.g. ``): Itemized additions and deductions, one per line as "label, +/-amount".
- **appraiser_name** (e.g. `Jane Smith, ASA`): Appraiser or preparer name for the certification block and the branded Excel. Defaults from the appraisal profile in account settings.
- **appraiser_license** (e.g. `MI-4417`): License or credential shown with the preparer name.
- **client_name** (e.g. `Sample Client`): Client the worksheet is prepared for.
- **consumer_name** (e.g. `John Q. Public`): The consumer (your customer) this worksheet is produced for. Renders as "Prepared for <name>".
- **consumer_address** (e.g. `123 Main St, Madison Heights, MI`): Consumer address for the report header.
- **consumer_phone** (e.g. `(248) 555-0142`): Consumer phone for the report header.
- **file_number** (e.g. `CLM-2026-0142`): Claim / file reference number. Leave blank to auto-assign from your account's series.

## Data semantics

Every price is a **listed (asking) price**, not a transacted sale price. "Recently off-market" comps show a vehicle's last list price (a sold proxy). The ML "MarketCheck Price" predicts an optimal listing price, not a sale price.
